The newly created Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) commissionerate is all set to begin its operations from October 1.
Chief Minister- Uddhav Thackeray e-inaugurated the commissionerate which as of now will be headquartered at a municipal owned building in the Ram Nagar area of Mira Road, as a provisional arrangement for the elevated policing system, till the construction and infrastructure work of the new headquarters gets completed.

On Tuesday 23rd July 2019, the Maharashtra government approved a proposal to set up a separate police commissionerate office for Mira Road and Bhayandar and along with Vasai-Virar region.
The proposal was cleared in the weekly cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who also holds Home portfolio.
A statement from CM’s office said the population in Mira-Bhayandar and Vasai-Virar is more than 44 lakh, approximately. The need of the hour is to have elaborate police strength to tackle crime and security needs.
The commissionarete has been created by bifurcating the jurisdictions of Thane (Rural) superintendent of police and Palghar superintendent of police. The commssionerate will have six police stations from Thane rural and 13 from Palghar. The police commissioner will be the officer of Additional Director General (ADG) rank.
