BJP’s Geeta Jain is mayor of Mira-Bhayander

The BJP’s Geeta Jain is elected as a mayor of Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC).

The mayor’s post was reserved for woman from the general category.

Geeta Jain of the BJP was elected as the mayor with 48 votes on Friday. She defeated NCP’s candidate and outgoing mayor Cathleen Pereira who got 41 votes.

Shiv Sena’s Praveen Patil won the deputy mayor post with 48 votes. He defeated Congress’s Hansukumar Pandey who got 41 votes. The outgoing deputy mayor Noorjahan Hussain is from the Congress.

This is the first time the BJP-Sena has got its mayor and deputy mayor. So far, it was the Congress and the NCP who got the mayor post.
