MBMT bus catches fire at Mira Road

The Mira Bhayandar Municipal Transport (MBMT) bus (MH-04-G-9023) arrived from Jogeshwari to Western Park in Kashimira of Mira Road at around 12.25 pm, which was the last stop. After all the passengers alighted, the driver Mohan Tiwari took a turn when there was fire on the front side of the engine. Tiwari halted the bus and along with the conductor Santosh Rathod rushed out of the bus to extinguish the fire.

The fire brigade was called and the fire was brought under control. The cause of fire has not been ascertained. The bus was discontinued from further service.

Passengers have been concerned about the bad state of the MBMC buses. The buses are run on a contract basis. The contractors have been demanding a hike in fare to maintain the buses.
