Taking a tough stand against those who have been repeatedly ignoring precautionary guidelines towards dengue prevention, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has registered criminal cases against 16 individuals and housing societies for spreading the deadly dengue in their homes and surroundings.

“As of now, cases under sections 268 and 269 of the IPC have been registered in Bhayandar, Navghar, Mira Road and Kashimira police stations. Our teams are on regular inspection and those found guilty of negligence will meet the same fate,” confirmed deputy civic chief Dr. Sambhaji Panpatte.

In the case of negligent housing societies, onus will rest on the chairman and the secretary. However, no arrests have been made so far, officials said.

As per records, 1,011 suspected cases of dengue have been reported from different hospitals and localities across the Mira-Bhayandar region so far this year. But the number of confirmed cases stands at 15.
